Description
Portrait of the commander of the legendary cruiser "Varyag" captain first rank V. F. Rudnev. The cruiser "Varyag", the heroic fight with the Japanese fleet 09.02.1904 year.
February 9, 1904 Varyag and the gunboat Koreets were blocked in the Korean port of Chemulpo the Japanese fleet (6 cruisers, and 8 destroyers), and they were asked to surrender. Rudnev rejected the ultimatum of the Japanese, decided to fight and break through the blockade. For time battle the Vikings was released on the enemy 1105 shells, sinking a destroyer and damaging two Japanese cruisers, but he was badly damaged, losing 122 men killed and wounded. Russian ships have not got to the enemy, Rudnev decided to sink the cruiser and blow up a gunboat.
