Description
The division traces its history back to 1924. Her troops participated in the Soviet-Finnish war (1939 - 1940). During the great Patriotic war, fought against the Nazi invaders on the Western and Volkhov fronts.
24 Jun 1945, shelves division marched through red square, and plunged the banners of Nazi Germany to the foot of the Mausoleum during the Victory Parade.
In the postwar years, the soldiers of the division performed special tasks to resolve the ethnic conflict. For services to the Fatherland, the division was awarded orders of Lenin (1939), the red banner (1944), the October Revolution (1985), Zhukova (2014). For courage and heroism in the performance of military duty, thousands of soldiers and officers of the division were awarded military orders and medals, 12 were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 19 of the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.
